How Do I Apply a YouTube Filter?

First, we'll look at how to utilise YouTube filters to find certain videos. This section will teach you more than half of what you need to know about search filtering. That is why, if you are unfamiliar with it, I am covering it first.

When you search for anything on YouTube, it will provide results based on "Relevance." However, you may narrow search results by utilising filters. To see all of the filters, see the screenshot below.

Let's go over each filter one by one.

Upload Date

The "Upload Date" filter offers a total of 5 possibilities. You may pick the video time period here to obtain better results.

  • Last hour - If you pick this option, you will see videos added to YouTube in the last 1 hour that are linked to your search query.
  • Today - If you select this option, YouTube will display videos uploaded today.
  • This week - YouTube will search for and display videos uploaded in this week (last 7 days).
  • This month - By selecting this option, you will view films published to YouTube in the previous 30 days.
  • This year - If you pick this option from upload date, you will get videos uploaded on YouTube in the last year.

Type

After searching on YouTube, you may specify the type of search.

  • Video - You can select this option if you just want videos linked to your search.
  • Channel - This option displays the channels associated with the name you put in the search field.
  • Playlist - If you're looking for playlists of your favourite musician or series, this choice is for you.
  • Finding a movie on YouTube? This option will assist you in locating the film you are searching for.
  • Show - If there are any shows linked to your search, you may access them by selecting this option.

Duration

This filter can assist you whether you want to view short or long films. For example, if you are looking for a movie teaser or trailer, you should go for short videos; if you are looking for extensive information, a course, or a recipe to produce great cuisine, you should look for long videos.

  • Short (4 minutes) - By selecting this option, you will see videos that are shorter than 4 minutes long.
  • Long (> 20 minutes) - If you select this option, you will see videos that are longer than 20 minutes.

Features

You may filter videos by choosing the features shown above. You may choose several characteristics for advanced filtering here.

  • Live - If you want to watch live videos, then search for them and then use this filter.
  • 4K - Use this filter if you have a faster Internet connection and wish to watch 4K videos.
  • HD - In this day and age, who doesn't want to view HD videos? So, to get just HD videos, use this filter first.
  • Subtitles/CC - If you want to watch videos with subtitles or closed captions, choose this option.
  • Creative Commons - Are you a YouTube creator using Creative Commons? Want to use someone else's films without paying for the rights? Then select this option to filter CC videos.
  • 360° - Do you have a virtual reality headset? Then you may go to YouTube and see 360° videos. You may use this tool to locate 360-degree videos.
  • VR180 - Similarly, if you pick this filter, you may use a VR headset to watch VR180 films on YouTube.

        Sort By

This filter is used to order the videos according to the choice you select.

        • Relevance - When someone searches on YouTube, this option is used by default for sorting. YouTube will sort the video based on its relevancy.
        • Upload date - If you choose this sorting option, you will see movies that were posted near the time of your search. Following that, you'll view previously posted videos.
        • View count - Use this sorting option to watch videos that have had the most views.
        • Rating - By selecting this sorting option, videos will be listed in descending order of likes and dislikes.
So, we have seen all types of filters to search for videos in a better way. As I said earlier, more than 50% of search filtering ends here. Now, we will move forward to the YouTube search operators.

        YouTube Search Operators

Here are some search phrases to help you locate YouTube videos faster and more successfully. These search phrases are known as YouTube search operators. Similarly, you may search using Google search operators, as we explained in Google search tactics.

First, we'll look at the major search operators.

        Exact Match Operator

If you are certain about the key words you want to appear in search results, you may use the " " (double quotes) operator. For example, to get relevant search results for the Avengers Endgame Trailer, enter "Avengers Endgame Trailer."

        Force Word Operator

Sometimes the keywords in your search query are removed from the results. You may avoid this by using the + (plus) operator. For example, if you want to watch the highlights of the Cricket World Cup 2011, but the results are for a different year, put + before 2011 and search as follows - Cricket World Cup Highlights +2011.

Similarly, use the - (minus) operator to remove any keyword from the search results. For example, if you don't only want to view the highlights of the 2015 Cricket World Cup, try searching for Cricket World Cup Highlights -2015.

        Intitle Operator

This search operator is quite helpful. When you use the intitle operator, YouTube will display videos with your search word in the title. For example, if you want to see highlights of Team India's Cricket World Cup matches, search for Cricket World Cup Highlights intitle:India.

        Wildcard Operator

You may use the wildcard operator to discover videos if you don't want to input the entire search word. The wildcard operator is *** (asterisk)** in this case. For example, if you want to locate movies on the OnePlus 7, you may use the search term OnePlus 7*.

        YouTube Search Operators for Filtering

Now we'll look at the search operators that are used to filter the results. These YouTube search operators will assist you in filtering results immediately with a search. As a result, you do not need to click on the filter and choose a specific filter. Because I have already discussed each filter in length in this post, I will merely discuss how to utilise it.

These search commands are simple to memories and utilize. It is possible to apply several filters with these search operators. To utilize several filters, just add the syntax of the search operator one at a time. For example, if you want to see Avengers videos in HD that are less than 4 minutes long and were uploaded within the previous year, your search query would be - Avengers, HD, short, year.

Don't be concerned if you receive surprising search results. It's conceivable that your searched phrase isn't in the video title, but is in the video description or comments.
